Rex (8/24/05 - 4/18/18)
Our Rex was born somewhere in the neighborhood at the end of the summer of 2005; one of a second litter brought to our backyard food bowl by his mother, beautiful Endora. He stood out from his siblings, not only for his Tuxedo good looks, but because he followed his mother so closely, like a tiny shadow. We were able to trap Rexie and most of his family before autumn gave way to winter, and blundered our way through a “socialization process.” Ever alert and always cautious, this special boy was the smartest of the bunch, the first to learn his name and the first to figure out how to maximize his share of our Fancy Feast bribes. He grew into a sweet, sleek adult, impeccably dressed and a picture of elegance—our “Cary Grant” cat. As gorgeous as he was, he remained timid, with a tiny meow to match his tiny ears. He became our “Bed Panther,” due to his habit of reclining luxuriously on the corner of our bed.
Only 13, his illness came suddenly, mysteriously, and then he was gone, leaving us quietly during his treatment. We were blindsided at his passing and heartbroken that we were not there to comfort him at the end. Rest in peace, Rexie cat. We miss you and hope that you knew how much we love you.
